  • Take Charge!™ Lessons, Tips & Tools by Mary-Jane Beach, Family Therapist /Educational Consultant

The Bridges Associates' Take Charge!(TM) Educational Coaching curriculum integrates the use of one or more symbolic tools in each of its 12 lessons. The tools provide an opportunity for hands-on learning of the concepts presented in the lesson.

In the second of a 12-part lesson series, we invite you to explore the power of these tools for learning with an abbreviated version of Take Charge!(TM) Lesson 2: Understanding How You Learn .

Work along with us each month! Order the multisensory Take Charge!(TM) Tool Kit --containing all 16 tools and a colorful and durable Lessons and Notes Journal to coordinate with the Take Charge!™ Lessons.

Each of the abbreviated lessons in this series is available in greater detail in the Take Charge!™ Workbook.

Ask us to come to you!

Attention school administrators, parent advisory councils, and non-profit agencies. Host a Take Charge!™ (TM) program custom-tailored to your group of 6 or more adults.

Proven through a decade of research and practice, the Take Charge!™ (TM) Educational Coaching method is a multi-sensory, strength-based approach for developing self-awareness, self-confidence, and self- advocacy. Program participants learn crucial techniques for managing learning differences in the classroom, at the dinner table or in any group setting.

How effective is Take Charge (TM)? Ask some of the hundreds of participants who have completed the training already. We'd be happy to supply a list of names.

Our fees are competitive, learning and fun guaranteed! Plan now for fall! Limited times available. Contact us today.

Food for Thought: Change one thing! by Betsy Werner, M.Ed., R.N.

How do you begin creating a healthy lifestyle? Change is really accomplished by building new routines and finding balance in your life. For this reason I challenge you to make just one change. Making one change will help you move toward a healthier lifestyle. Begin a new daily health habit. Select a goal and chart your progress toward the goal on a calendar. Think about doing this for 21 days. If you repeat this new behavior change daily for three weeks you will be on your way to creating a sustainable health habit. What will be your one change? Some ideas would be:

    1. drink water instead of coffee or soda
    2. walk daily
    3. put a fruit bowl on your kitchen table
    4. avoid fast food
    5. bring cut up fresh veggies for snacks
    6. replace processed foods with whole foods (unsalted nuts, fruits, veggies)

Learning Disabilities and Learning Differences: What causes a learning difference? by John A. Beach, Educational Psychologist

This is a difficult question to answer precisely and often the cause is unknown. The truth can lie in environmental factors or genetics..

    Congratulations to Riding Program Volunteers

Bridges Associates was fortunate to collaborate in developing an innovative horseback riding - social enrichment program (1999-2004).

We recently heard from two of the young volunteers, Erin and Kerry. After the barn sold and the program ended, they decided to move up in the field. Erin passed her instructor's license and Kerry is going to college for equine studies.

Congratulations and good luck! Erin is available to teach riding to students of all ages, including those with learning issues. Call her:(508) 398-3170 or email for more information!
