The Bridgebuilder a resource for children and adults with learning differences
September 2005 Issue #7

Turn over a new leaf this fall! Autumn is a time of natural change. In our region, the leaves change color and fall, making way for rest and new growth in the spring.

At Bridges, we think about change as a natural process. We help people take charge of their lives by envisioning change. We guide them to "let go" of routines that are no longer useful, and replace them with new and optimistic solutions.

If you are ready to learn something new, register for one of our programs, order a Take Charge!(TM) kit, or write back to tell us what you think will help you turn over a new leaf and Take Charge!(TM)

Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) and Accommodation Plans (504’s): What’s the difference?

Many people ask us about the differences between these two federal designations..

    20 Tips For Staying Healthy

    1. Be aware of your health practices and daily habits that are being modeled for your child. “Children learn what they live.” Pay attention to how you care (or not) for yourself. As Albert Einstein said “your actions scream so loudly I cannot hear what you say”. Think about health holistically and become your child’s best health coach by taking care of yourself: mind, body and spirit!

Individuals with learning problems may have trouble l expressing feelings verbally due to their disability. When someone has trouble expressing or discussing feelings or emotions, tension and frustration is a common occurrence. Have you ever asked: "how do you feel?" or "why did you do that?" and been frustrated by the response: "I don't know" or worse. Are you left with a feeling of frustration and still a conviction that there must be a way to reach the child?
